Dr. Xiaoping Wang
Instrument Scientist
TOPAZ BL-12
Dr. Xiaoping Wang is an instrument scientist co-responsible for the TOPAZ single crystal diffractometer (SNS Beamline-12). He received his Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry from Texas A&M University in 1998, where he did his graduate work with Professor F. Albert Cotton. He then undertook postdoctoral research in neutron chemical crystallography in Argonne National Laboratory. He was the director for crystallographic computing in the Laboratory for Molecular Structure and Bonding at Texas A&M University from December 2001 to May 2006, and the director of X-Ray Diffraction Laboratory at University of North Texas from June 2006 to July 2008. Xiaoping Wang has been appointed as an adjunct professor in Chemistry at University of North Texas since February, 2009. He is co-author of more than 90 research paper published in peer-reviewed journals.
Description of Research
Dr. Wang’s primary research interest is applications of neutron and X-ray single crystal crystallography in chemistry and materials science. Research topics include guest-host interactions in metal-organic frameworks, ion transport and storage in energy materials, magnetic and structural properties of molecular compounds, hydrogen bonding and polymorphism.
