HEBT: 37

Responsible parties:

Analog electronics: John Power, LANL.

Digital electronics: Matt Stettler, LANL.

Pickups: Jim O’Hara, LANL

Measurement:

The BPM system provides a non-intercepting measurement of beam position and phase.

Key specifications:

Peak beam current range:                 10 to 60 mA. Reduced performance at lower currents.

Bandwidth:                                      5 MHz.

Position measurement accuracy:      ±1%1 of aperture radius.

Position measurement resolution:      ±0.1%1 of aperture radius. Relies on averaging several data points within a minipulse.

Phase measurement accuracy:         ±2 degrees of processing freq. (402.5 or 805 MHz).

Phase measurement resolution:        ±0.2 degrees of processing freq. (402.5 or 805 MHz).

Update rate:                                    10 Hz. All BPM instruments must be synchronized to sample the same macropulse.

Minimum minipulse length:               300 ns.

Inputs:

4 cables from BPM pickup.

RTDL/event link.

120 Vac (on/off control via control system).

Channel Access

2.5 MHz reference.

Outputs:

Channel Access.

RF feedback system.

Delivery schedule:

July to August 2001deliver DTL pickups.

October 2001 deliver electronics to LBL

March to July 2002 deliver CCL pickups.

March to July 2002 deliver CCL pickups.

July 2002 deliver electronics to ORNL.

Notes:

1. For positions within 50% of aperture radius. Reduced performance for positions between 50% of 90% of aperture radius.

2. For 52 mA peak beam current, beam centered. Reduced performance at lower currents and off-center beams.
