FBLM System Brochure
Numbers of installed units:
Linac: 0
HEBT: 3
Ring: 12
RTBT: 3
Measurement : Scintillator-photomultipliers offer a wide
dynamic range and nano-second response to resolve losses within a single turn.
Details of the fast losses might provide insight about clipping of the bunch
ends, losses due to beam in the gap, and losses due to instabilities if they
occur.
Minimum requirements:
Operating modes: Commissioning, Studies, troubleshooting,
Operational (nominal).
Beam current width: Sub-µsec (partial mini-pulse) to 1 msec macro-pulse.
Macro-pulse chopped at ring revolution rate of ~1.07 MHz. Mini-pulse width
~ 695 nsec.
Typical detector Response: On the order of 100 micro-Coulombs
per Rad.
Electronics Bandwidth: Signals will be digitized through
a standard 60 Msa/s, 14 bit ADC. In addition, all units will be selectable
through a wideband mux to be read into a 1 Gsa/s ADC.
Electronics Gain: Programmable by varying PMT HV bias.
Pulse Identification: Date/time stamp sufficient to specify
macro-pulse.
Timing: Timing settable within macro-pulse with nano-second
order precision.
Update rate: As required.
Beam Inhibit Capabilities:
None.
Local Data Storage: "Flight-Recorder Mode, 60 (1-second)
records of "Detailed Losses" for each detector. Available for readback
on beam abort.
In-Situ System check: On-line check of all detectors,
connections and electronics by pulsing test LED in each unit.
Identification: Each BLM detector and each electronics module will have a
unique serial number. A bar code shall be assigned and applied by ORNL.
Calibration: Each BLM detector and electronics channel
shall have a measured and archived characteristic response curve.
Packaging: Enclosed Liquid Scintillator/PMT/base assembly at 18 locations.
High Voltage Bias & Control:
High Voltage: On/Off (CMD and RBAC)
Voltage level (CMD and RBAC)
Current readback
0-3000 V, 2 mA
Each Detector has dedicated bias supply.
Cabling:
HV Cabling: Red RG-59 with SHV connectors (non-PTFE).
Signal Cabling: 50 Ohm coax cabling with BNC connectors (non-PTFE).
Test LED Cabling: 1 multiconductor, 2 pair, 20 AWG.
