Recent Enhancements to the Proposal System

Call for Proposals:

Proposals for beam time at HFIR and SNS for the Operational Cycle NScD 2008-B (September 2008-February 2009) are now being accepted until June 20, 2008.

New Instruments Entering the User Program:

The instruments below will be commissioned during this period and/or will have limited availability for general users. Proposals for these instruments are being accepted:

HFIR HB-2A Neutron Powder Diffractometer
HFIR HB-2C U.S./Japan Wide Angle Neutron Diffractometer
HFIR HB-3A Single-Crystal Four-Circle Diffractometer
SNS BL-3 Spallation Neutrons and Pressure Diffractometer (SNAP)
SNS BL-5 Cold Neutron Chopper Spectrometer (CNCS)
SNS BL-18 Wide Angular-Range Chopper Spectrometer (ARCS)

Software Change: Specification of Sample Environment Equipment

This utility is now set up to select the sample environment parameters that you need for your samples, not specific pieces of equipment.

Software change: Choice of Beamline

You may submit one beamline request per proposal.   If you need multiple beamlines to perform your experiment, you will need to submit a new proposal for each request.

However, the following instrument groups offer a choice of beamlines:

  • Triple Axis
  • Powder Diffraction

For these instruments, you may specify the instrument you prefer, along with up to 2 alternates.

Software change: Feedback

A Feedback link is provided, accessible on any of the proposal pages in the upper right corner.  The feedback you provide via this link will be collated with comments received from other users and presented to the IPTS Advisory Group and Neutron Scattering Science Division management. All comments will be presented anonymously. Please do not use this form to solicit help with an immediate problem; instead please contact an IPTS proposal administrator at ipts@ornl.gov or 865-241-3675.
