In addition to a written manuscript, all submissions to the workshop
must be presented either as contributed talks or posters. We do
not accept manuscripts for publication only.
We ask that you adhere to the following limits for talk duration
and manuscript length:
Tutorials: 75 + 15* min; 20 pages
Invited Talks: 50 + 10* min; 16 pages
Contributed Oral: 15 + 5* min; 8 pages
Poster: N.A.; 8 pages
* Time allotted for questions.
Posters
There will be one poster session, which will be held on Wednesday,
May 5, from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. Each poster area will be 40 in.
high by 40 in. long. Only Velcro dots will be used to mount presentation
masters to the panels. Velcro dots will be available at the workshop
for your use. This is a size change from the original instructions.
The change was necessary because of a required room layout adjustment.
Papers
Paper Preparation Guidelines
The BIW04 proceedings will be published by the American Institute
of Physics (AIP), as in previous years. Manuscripts must be prepared
in conformance with the AIP 6- x 9-inch format. Instructions, templates
(Word and Latex), and a sample paper are available on-line at the
AIP site: http://proceedings.aip.org/proceedings/authors.jsp.
Be sure to prepare your paper in 6- x 9-inch format.
This AIP site also contains forms for transfer of copyright, request
for permission to reprint published material, and for offprint or
reprint orders.
Submission Deadline
Authors are asked to submit their electronic manuscript(s) and
one paper copy before 12:00 noon, Wednesday, May 5. You may submit
your copyright forms and paper copies of your paper at the workshop
or send them by mail to the following address:

Electronic File Submission
Please submit the native file of your paper (Word or Latex) and
a Postscript file. If possible, also submit your original graphics
files. To ensure the best translation of your original file into
PDF, please follow these guidelines:
- Use Type 1 Adobe fonts and avoid Type 3 fonts as much as possible.
- Embed all fonts and graphics when saving the file.
- Set the graphics for 600 dpi resolution for line art and 266
lines for halftones (noncompressed).
- Save graphics in grayscale (B/W), not indexed to color (figures
will be printed in black and white in the book). Please note that
scanning in figures at 300 dpi resolution will not produce acceptable
output at the printer.
Your cooperation in using the templates and following the formatting
and submission instructions provided by the AIP and on this page
will help the conference staff produce the proceedings volume on
time and with a minimum of effort.
We ask that you submit your source file (Word or LaTeX) as well
as a PostScript file in case the volume editors need to make some
minor modifications for the sake of consistent usage or style throughout
the volume. A paper copy is needed for quality assurance purposes,
to show the editors how you intend the paper to appear.
Checklist for your submission:
1. Source files(s) in Word or Latex
2. Encapsulated PostScript (EPS), JPG, or GIF files of your figures
3. Postscript (fonts and graphics embedded) version of the final,
complete manuscript
4. Clean, single-sided paper copy of your completed manuscript
6. Signed Transfer of Copyright form (Please note, AIP cannot
publish your paper without a signed copyright form.)
On-line Manuscript Submission
To submit your paper, log into your BIW04 account at http://snsapp1.sns.ornl.gov/pls/spms/profile.html
. Your paper(s) will be listed. Under the "Function" column,
