Mark S Lyttle

Section Head

Mark Lyttle is the Section Head for Neutron Technologies Engineering in the Neutron Technologies Division of Neutron Sciences Directorate.

Mark joined ORNL and the Spallation Neutron Source Research Accelerator Division, as Accelerator Mechanical Systems Team Lead and Interim Group Leader in 2009, where he managed a team of engineers, craft, and technical personnel overseeing the maintenance and improvement of the SNS accelerator systems.  In 2012, Mark took a position as the Project/Control Account Manager for the US ITER Pellet Injection and Disruption Mitigation.   He managed the R&D and design efforts for the ITER Pellet Injection (PI) and Disruption Mitigation (DM) systems to supply unique, one-of-a-kind equipment as part of the US contribution to the multi-national ITER fusion project currently under construction in France. In 2018, Mark became a Mechanical Engineer for the Source Development and Engineering Group and he quickly moved up to the position of Group Leader for the Monolith Engineering and Manufacturing Team.  As a Group Leader Mark managed a team of engineering, mechanical design, and technical professionals that supports SNS engineering and operations goals related to various target systems.

Mark received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science (1998) and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (1999) from the University of Tennessee. He is a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Tennessee
