NScD ESH&Q Coordinator

Eric Griffis is the ESH&Q Coordinator for the Neutron Sciences Directorate. The Directorate operates two user facilities on behalf of the Department of Energy, the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) and the High Flux Isotope Reactor (HFIR) focusing on ORNL being the world-leading center for neutron science and innovation by providing unparalleled neutron scattering capabilities to the broad scientific community for elucidating the structure and dynamics of the full range of materials and chemical processes to solve today’s key challenges that depend on critical advances in materials discovery and design. Eric champions continuous improvement and performance assurance of operations within the Directorate and acts as a contact for key support organizations representing the assigned directorate and Environment, Safety, Health, and Quality (ESH&Q) on laboratory-level committees, task forces, and working groups. He works with appropriate matrixed support staff to facilitate resolution of issues, concerns, or problems regarding facilities, safety, and training.

Eric became the ESHQ Coordinator for NScD in 2021 after twenty years in various technical, operations, engineering, and ESH&Q roles at ORNL. Eric received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University and his M.S. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
