My job changes from day to day. We’re responsible for aligning the entire SNS, beginning at the Front End all the way through the accelerator system to the mercury target, and outward through the neutron beam guides to the sample areas. If a scientist, physicist, or engineer requires a component or vessel to be measured or aligned correctly, often to very tight tolerances, then it’s up to our team to make sure that gets accomplished.”
“We’re also quite adept at troubleshooting alignment issues, when adjoining parts do not assemble properly or when specific components are not functioning as designed. Numerous groups and individuals involved in this project rely on our group as well as other support groups, often in unison, to accomplish the task at hand. It’s this team mentality, this ‘we’re all in this together’ aspect that makes this work here at the Spallation Neutron Source rewarding.”
