After Your Experiment

1. Sign Out

After your experiment is complete, you must sign out before leaving. Inform your assigned contact you are ready to leave, or if your local contact is unavailable, you may speak with Sample Support or another member of the instrument staff.

The Instrument Hall Coordinator (IHC) is on call 24 hours a day and may be contacted at 865-241-4432 for the sign out process if no one else is available.

2. Return Badge and Dosimeter

Your badge and dosimeter are property of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), and you are not permitted to keep them when you leave ORNL.

After your experiment has concluded and you sign out, drop off your dosimeter at the User Office OR place the dosimeter with your badge in the drop box at the portal as you leave ORNL.

3. Analyze Data

Resources are available to help reduce and analyze the data collected during your experiment. Visit the Data Management page for more information.

4. Publish Results

Research should be published acknowledging ORNL and the facility, or facilities, with the following credit line:

This research [or, A portion of this research] used resources at the High Flux Isotope Reactor [and/or Spallation Neutron Source, as appropriate], a DOE Office of Science User Facility operated by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

The specific instrument(s) used at HFIR and SNS should be credited in the body of the paper. In addition, please recognize the significant effort of the instrument team in planning and performing experiments, and consider, as appropriate, co-authorship in the resulting publication. Contributions made by the instrument staff should be considered following normal standards for recognizing collaborations in publications.

5. Submit a Publication

All publications from research must be submitted to the Publications for SNS and HFIR (PuSH) database.

6. Notify the User Office

After your experiment, if there are any changes to your information (such as your facility affiliation, contact information, visa status, etc.), notify the User Office to stay informed of ORNL Neutron Sciences activities.
