Instrument Selection
Header image- rotation of 8 proposed high res instruments the facility and facility layout images.
The Second Target Station will provide up to 22 new beam line instruments that will be best suited to study complex materials and materials in motion, especially soft matter, biological structures, quantum phenomena and magnetism, and advanced engineered materials. The selection criteria for determining these beamlines are:
- Scientific importance
- Relevance of STS capabilities
- Technical feasibility and fit to project resources
- Strength of the user community and expected productivity
Community input on potential new beamlines at STS was initially solicited in 2015 from ORNL staff, the US neutron scattering community, and US DOE Office of Science. A working group of scientific leaders from ORNL synthesized the input from the 2015 sessions and from other sessions that followed to propose the first 8 instruments that would be installed at STS.
Need Names, Graphic, 1-3 sentences on what each instrument will be ideal for / world leading
Final instrument selections will be made in XXXX
