Collaborative Research Opportunities in Neutron Science

Student, Faculty, and Postdoctoral Research and Sabbaticals

ORNL Neutron Sciences may be able to provide resources for short- and long-term collaborative research efforts. Initial discussions should be with your local scientific collaborator. Proposals then should be sent to the appropriate science division director to determine funding availability and the next appropriate steps.

Available Programs

  • Visiting Student Thesis Research Program: Short- and long-term opportunities are available for university-based graduate students to pursue thesis-related research in collaboration with ORNL staff.
  • Visiting Postdoctoral Research Program: Short- and long-term opportunities are available for university-based postdoctoral fellows to engage in collaborative research and development using neutron scattering on the High Flux Isotope Reactor and Spallation Neutron Source instruments as a primary research tool. Collaboration may be with Neutron Sciences staff as well as other ORNL researchers.
  • Faculty Research Sabbaticals: The Faculty Research Sabbaticals Program offers summer and academic-year sabbatical programs that will draw the best scientific talent from institutions all over the world to interact with the resident staff and user communities.
