Discovery of Charge Density Wave in a Kagome Lattice Antiferromagnet

A charge density wave (CDW) emerges in the antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordered phase of kagome lattice FeGe.
Significance and Impact
Generally, CDWs either precede or accompany the formation of long-range magnetic order. The unexpected observation of the CDW forming with AFM already present represents a new paradigm for emergent phenomena in these materials.
Research Details
- Neutron and X-ray scattering measurements were performed on a 30 mg single crystal of FeGe.
- Electrical and magneto-transport measurements were carried out in a 14-T PPMS.
- The magnetic field dependence of the susceptibility was measured using a Quantum Design physical property measurement system (PPMS).
