Protein Characterization & Crystallization Laboratory
The Protein Crystallization and Characterization Laboratory is part of the suite of Neutron Scattering Division biology laboratories in the SNS Central Laboratory and Office Building. Key characterization capabilities include protein and DNA gel electrophoresis, a gel documentation system, a thermal cycle for PCR, a Spectromax microplate reader (combined UV/Visible and fluorescence), UV/Visible and Circular dichroism spectroscopy, and a preparative ultracentrifuge. Capabilities for protein crystallization include Art Robbins Instruments (ARI) Gryphon and Scorpion liquid handling robots for automated crystal drop setup, 13 temperature-controlled static incubators for crystal growth and a Zeiss microscope for crystal viewing and manipulation. The laboratory is available to all staff and users with approved neutron beamtime proposals.
