SHUG User Meetings

User meetings are held every other year and are co-organized by the SHUG Executive Committee and ORNL Neutron Scattering Division staff. Every four years, this meeting is also a joint event co-organized with ORNL’s Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences. Town halls are also held in parallel with the American Conference on Neutron Scattering (ACNS) meeting on the off years. User meetings are major events for the North American neutron scattering community and typically include plenary speakers, themed parallel sessions, workshops, town halls, facilities tours, panel discussions, and poster sessions.

2025 ORNL Joint Nanoscience and Neutron Scattering User Meeting

The 2025 ORNL Joint Nanoscience and Neutron Scattering User Meeting will be held August 12-13 in downtown Knoxville at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, with topical workshops (held at the Crowne Plaza) and facility tours on August 11 and 14. This event brings together the user communities of CNMS, HFIR, and SNS for a dynamic exchange of scientific advances and opportunities at the intersection of nanoscience and neutron scattering.

Confirmed plenary speakers include Jon-Paul Maria (Pennsylvania State University), Matthew McDowell (Georgia Tech), and Amy Xu (Louisiana State University).

The User Meeting will also feature a student poster slam, poster reception, joint town hall meeting with both user groups, facility tours, and more.
