Consumer Products

Neutrons can characterize the properties of almost any type of consumer product, including detergents, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, films, and batteries. Neutron research can help optimize product formulations, improve production processes, and enhance product durability and performance. Neutrons are capable of looking at the structure of materials at length scales from one to hundreds of nanometers and are very sensitive to lighter elements, such as hydrogen. Experiments can also incorporate deuterium—an isotope of hydrogen—to provide improved contrast between areas of different densities within materials.
