Computing & Microelectronics
Neutrons are unmatched in their ability to evaluate the sensitivity of computing and microelectronic devices in radiative environments at atomic and larger length-scales, to characterize thin films and stacked materials (dielectrics and composites), and to probe defects, such as residual stress inside materials, that could lead to failures. Neutrons are also invaluable in helping explore novel electronic/optical phenomena and new states of matter with unique properties that can be manipulated to design non-traditional interconnects at the atomic, micro, and macro scales.
